The homepage serves as the virtual front door to your business, encapsulating the essence
of your brand and captivating visitors from the moment they arrive. It's important that we
highlight the top three services prominently, each with a brief description and a clear call
to action. We will include exclusive special offers on the homepage that can immediately
capture attention and drive engagement. We will create three additional Service Pages and
a Contact Page.
Home Page
(approved)
Our team will craft the text  for your Home Page using the information provided in the
business overview section. Is there anything else you want us to include on the Home
Page?
We are hoping to keep our landing page simple and clean. The large photo of the two dogs
lying on the rocks at the top of the mountain speaks of dogs, Virginia, outdoors, and life
shared with dogs.
We like the feel of one large image on the landing page with short intros to our other
pages beside photos arranged in a tiled fashion.
We came up with text for those tiles (but did not decide on images- hope you can!)f as
follows:
 Available Dogs
Our work depends on people willing to open their hearts and homes to one of our rescued
Shelties. When our Shelties are ready to leave foster care, we carefully post a description
of their personalities and what they need in a new forever home as carefully as we can.

Rehoming Your Sheltie
If you need to rehome your Sheltie, you don’t have to navigate this hard decision alone.
We’re here to help—compassionately and responsibly. If you’re facing this decision, please

know this: Our focus is on supporting you while helping your Sheltie move safely into the
next chapter of their life.
Most Shelties who come into NVSR’s care are deeply loved dogs whose families are
navigating life changes such as relocation, health concerns, allergies, a new baby, divorce,
or financial strain.
While in NVSR’s care, your Sheltie will live in a foster home, receive appropriate veterinary
care, and be carefully matched with a qualified adopter. Foster families care for each dog
as one of their own, with attention to the dog’s individual needs and respect for the
situation that brought them to NVSR. We prioritize thoughtful, lifelong placements—not
quick ones.
If you’re ready to start a conversation with us, you can email us at intake@nvsr.org or
leave a phone message at 703-912-4002. One of our volunteers will return your call or
email, usually within 24 hours.
Need Urgent Help?
If you are facing an urgent situation such as hospitalization, housing loss, or a safety
concern, please let us know when you contact us.
Steps in the Rehoming Process (collapse these/accordion style?)
➤ What We’ll Ask from You
When you contact us, we’ll ask about your Sheltie’s medical and behavioral history, daily
routines, and preferences. This information helps us select a foster home that best meets
your dog’s needs. Most Shelties will need a foster home with both secure fencing and
someone home during the day.
Please note: While most behavioral issues are manageable, NVSR may not be able to
accept dogs with a history of serious bites that caused injury.
➤ The Transition Process
Once you agree to relinquish your Sheltie, you’ll complete a Relinquishment Form
transferring ownership to NVSR. After a foster home is selected, we’ll arrange
transportation.
We ask that you provide:
● Veterinary medical records and vet contact information
● Rabies certificate
● Microchip information (if applicable)
● A familiar item (toy, blanket, or bed) to help your Sheltie adjust
● All current medications, including preventatives
● A small amount of current food to allow for a gradual transition
We have a dedicated group of approved volunteers who can get your dog to their foster
home. Your Sheltie will remain in foster care for at least two weeks, often longer, while
medical needs are addressed and the foster family gets to know them.
➤ Veterinary Care & Support
NVSR covers veterinary care before adoption, including:
● Spay or neuter
● Vaccinations
● Heartworm and parasite testing
● Dental care, if needed
● Grooming
NVSR accepts Shelties of all ages and with a wide range of medical needs. Dogs with a
history of serious bites causing bodily harm may not be accepted; however, nipping and
minor behavior issues can often be successfully addressed in foster care.
➤ Placement in a New Home
All NVSR adopters complete a careful screening process that includes an application,
reference checks, and a home visit. We meet all family members and pets, review safety
considerations such as fencing and home hazards, and talk openly about their Sheltie
Page

experience and our expectations. Many of our adopters are families we know well through
prior adoptions and NVSR events.
➤ Staying Informed
We will keep you informed about how your Sheltie is adjusting in foster care. When your
dog is adopted, we can share general information about the adoptive family and, when
possible, a photo. Because NVSR follows Shelties throughout their lives, we’re also happy
to provide updates upon request.

If you have questions or would like to discuss rehoming your Sheltie, please get in touch
with us at intake@nvsr.org or leave us a message at 703-912-4002 and we will return your
call within 24 hours.
We approach every inquiry with empathy, respect, and care—for both you and your
Sheltie. We keep your messages confidential and work with you as urgently as needed.

ADOPTING A SHELTIE
At NVSR, our goal is simple: to match our rescued Shelties with the right home.
We take a thoughtful, structured approach to adoption so both our Shelties and adopters
can thrive.

Steps for Adoption
  Accordion Items Collapsed by default
➤Application to adopt
Please complete the application for adoption using the online form. (link to google form
adoption application)
You can indicate in the application if you are interested in a specific Sheltie. You’ll receive
confirmation of receipt after submitting the form.
➤What happens next
After we review your application, we will follow up with you to answer questions and
discuss potential matches. We generally have more applicants than dogs, so be patient.
However, you might be the best home for one of our foster dogs even though someone
has been waiting longer.
➤Home visit
If we have a foster dog that looks like a promising fit for you, a home visit volunteer will
schedule a visit. All household members, including pets, must be present. During the visit,
we: [make sure these are set as bullets (whatever design)]
• Answer your questions and talk “Sheltie.”
• Consider the house, yard, safety (fencing, stairs, hazards), other pets, and so on.
• Discuss preferences for age, size, and temperament.
➤References & Approval
NVSR will contact your references, including your current veterinary clinic. Once you are
approved, someone from the adoption team will contact you about the next steps.
➤Matchmaking
The adoption team sends approved applications to our foster providers whose foster dog
might be a match for you. Foster providers know their dogs best and help identify the
most likely matches. The foster provider will contact you to discuss and answer any
questions you may have before they arrange a meeting with the dog.
➤Meet & Greet
Meeting a foster dog usually takes place at the foster home so that your entire family can
Page
11
 of
19
Network Solutions Professional Services
meet the dog in a familiar, comfortable environment.
➤Adoption Day (aka Gotcha Day!)
If everyone agrees it’s a good fit, you will sign the adoption contract and pay the adoption
fee. You will then receive a detailed “Care of Your Adopted Dog” packet that includes your
dog’s medical history, current medications (including any remaining heartworm and
flea/tick preventatives), confirmation that your dog is microchipped, daily routines, and
any known behavioral or training considerations.
➤Adoption Fees & What They Support
Adoption fees vary by age and help support the veterinary and foster care each NVSR
Sheltie receives. Adoption fees cover only a portion of actual costs.
NVSR typically spends four times or more on veterinary care than the adoption fee covers
— often $950 or more per Sheltie. Foster families donate food, housing, daily care,
training, and love. Donations and fundraising make our work possible.
• 3 years and under: $450
• Adults 4 – 9 years: $350
• Seniors 10+ years: $200
➤Follow-up Support
Foster providers remain available after adoption to answer questions and help support a
smooth transition. After the first few months, NVSR’s Shepherd team continues to follow
up and can refer any concerns to our volunteers with relevant experience and knowledge
of Shelties.
________________________________________
What You Can Expect from NVSR
Every Sheltie is placed in an experienced foster home for at least two weeks, often longer,
to allow for proper evaluation and adjustment.
Dogs are carefully evaluated for health, temperament, and their ability to adapt to a new
setting.
Accordion Items Collapsed by default
➤NVSR provides foster dogs with comprehensive veterinary care, including:
● Spay or neuter (or a spay/neuter contract for puppies under six months; surgery
covered by NVSR)
● Vaccinations
● Heartworm and tick-borne disease testing and treatment
● Parasite screening
● Microchipping
● Grooming
● Dental care when needed
➤ Foster families evaluate their foster’s behavior or adaptation when appropriate:
● Compatibility with dogs, cats, and children
● House-training and leash skills
● Crate tolerance
● Comfort with car travel
● Response to basic verbal commands
● Behaviors of concern (dogs with aggressive behavior or a serious bite history are not
placed for adoption.)
➤ Other take-homes
• Adopters receive a martingale collar and leash at adoption.
• A detailed sheet on instructions for feeding, commands the dog knows, habits, and
preferences to make their adjustment easier.
• A complete medical history is provided whenever
possible.________________________________________
What We Expect from Adopters

NVSR places Shelties as family members, not accessories.
Adoption is a lifetime commitment. If an adopter can no longer keep a dog for any reason,
NVSR must be contacted and the dog returned to NVSR.
Accordion Items Collapsed by default
➤Home, Safety, & Daily Care
● Dogs must live indoors and be part of daily family life.
● Dogs may not be left outdoors unattended for extended periods or housed in outdoor
kennels.
● Dogs must be kept on a leash unless in a secure, physically fenced area.
● Daily exercise and mental stimulation are essential.
➤Fencing Requirements
● Secure, physical fencing is strongly preferred for all dogs. It is required for:
○ Puppies and young dogs
○ Dogs with higher exercise or safety needs
● Some dogs may not require a fenced yard and may do well with consistent
neighborhood walks.
● Invisible, electronic, or electric fencing is not permitted. It does not reliably protect dogs.
 ➤Health & Identification
● All resident pets must be spayed or neutered and current on vaccinations (limited
medical or show exceptions may apply).
● Dogs must receive year-round heartworm and flea/tick prevention.
● Dogs must wear identification tags, including an NVSR tag.

Frequently Asked Questions
Accordion Items Collapsed by default
➤Do you have a shelter where I can meet the dogs?
No. NVSR uses foster providers. Our dogs live in volunteers’ homes throughout Virginia
and some nearby states. Applicants may meet a dog only after being approved to adopt.
➤Where do your dogs come from?
Most are surrendered by owners facing life changes. Others come from breeders or
shelters. Shelters frequently transfer Shelties and Sheltie mixes to NVSR.
 ➤How long does adoption take?
The process may take weeks—or longer—depending on your preferences and the dogs
available. A dog’s medical or behavioral needs can extend timelines.
 ➤Do you adopt outside Virginia?
We primarily adopt within Virginia and nearby states (MD, WV, DC, DE). For harder-to-
place dogs, we may consider applicants farther away with an approved local home visit.
➤What if the adoption doesn’t work out?
You may return the dog within two weeks for a full refund. After that, the dog must always
be returned to NVSR, but the fee is not refundable.
➤Are Shelties good for first-time dog owners?
Sometimes. Older, well-trained dogs often work best. We carefully match experience level
to a dog’s needs and provide ongoing guidance.
 ➤Do I need a fenced yard?
A securely fenced yard is strongly preferred for young dogs. Some adults do well with
leash-only exercise depending on temperament and owner commitment. Invisible,
electronic, or electric fencing is not permitted, as it does not reliably protect dogs.
➤We work full-time. Could a Sheltie still be a fit?
Possibly, depending on its age, energy level, and support (e.g., dog walker). Young dogs
should not be left alone all day.

We take a thoughtful, structured approach to adoption so both our Shelties and adopters
can thrive.
_______________________________________________________
Page

Network Solutions Professional Services

We take a thoughtful, structured approach to adoption so both our Shelties and adopters
can thrive.
_______________________________________________________
Page

Network Solutions Professional Services

Our volunteers ensure that each dog lives in a foster home while they receive veterinary
care and training to become a beloved companion in a new home.
We advertise our available dogs and receive applications from potential adopters. We

encouragement throughout the dog's lifetime.
What makes your business stand out against the competition?

Rehoming Your Sheltie
If you need to rehome your Sheltie, you don’t have to navigate this hard decision alone.
We’re here to help—compassionately and responsibly. If you’re facing this decision, please
Page

know this: Our focus is on supporting you while helping your Sheltie move safely into the
next chapter of their life.
Page
10
 of
19

experience and our expectations.
________________________________________
If you have questions or would like to discuss rehoming your Sheltie, please get in touch
with us at intake@nvsr.org or leave us a message at 703-912-4002 and we will return your
call within 24 hours.
We approach every inquiry with empathy, respect, and care—for both you and your
Sheltie. We keep your messages confidential and work with you as urgently as needed.

ADOPTING A SHELTIE
At NVSR, our goal is simple: to match our rescued Shelties with the right home.
We take a thoughtful, structured approach to adoption so both our Shelties and adopters
can thrive.
_______________________________________________________

What You Can Expect from NVSR
Every Sheltie is placed in an experienced foster home for at least two weeks, often longer,
to allow for proper evaluation and adjustment.
Dogs are carefully evaluated for health, temperament, and their ability to adapt to a new
setting.
Accordion Items Collapsed by default
➤NVSR provides foster dogs with comprehensive veterinary care, including:
● Spay or neuter (or a spay/neuter contract for puppies under six months; surgery
covered by NVSR)
● Vaccinations
● Heartworm and tick-borne disease testing and treatment
● Parasite screening
● Microchipping
● Grooming
● Dental care when needed
➤ Foster families evaluate their foster’s behavior or adaptation when appropriate:
● Compatibility with dogs, cats, and children
● House-training and leash skills
● Crate tolerance
● Comfort with car travel
● Response to basic verbal commands
● Behaviors of concern (dogs with aggressive behavior or a serious bite history are not
placed for adoption.)
➤ Other take-homes
• Adopters receive a martingale collar and leash at adoption.
• A detailed sheet on instructions for feeding, commands the dog knows, habits, and
preferences to make their adjustment easier.
• A complete medical history is provided whenever
possible.________________________________________

Our work depends on people willing to open their hearts and homes to one of our rescued

Because NVSR follows Shelties throughout their lives, we’re also happy
to provide updates upon request.

with us at intake@nvsr.org or leave us a message at 703-912-4002 and we will return your
call within 24 hours.

Our team will craft the text  for your Home Page using the information provided in the

We are hoping to keep our landing page simple and clean. The large photo of the two dogs
lying on the rocks at the top of the mountain speaks of dogs, Virginia, outdoors, and life
shared with dogs.
We like the feel of one large image on the landing page with short intros to our other

We came up with text for those tiles (but did not decide on images- hope you can!)f as
follows:
 Available Dogs
Our work depends on people willing to open their hearts and homes to one of our rescued

Northern Virginia Sheltie Rescue (NVSR) is a volunteer-driven organization with over 25 years of experience, dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming Shetland Sheepdogs across Virginia and nearby states. Color Rationale

The primary navy blue feels trustworthy and calming, which reassures adopters and donors. The soft off-white makes the site easy to read for older visitors and gives a clean look. The golden accent brings warmth that feels inviting, friendly, and welcoming, just like a Sheltie.

Typography Style

Merriweather Heading Style

Primary headings with Merriweather font

Clean, elegant Open Sans typography for exceptional readability and modern aesthetic.

Body text: Open Sans

Typography Rationale

Merriweather is classic and easy to read, perfect for headings and appeals to the main audience, most of whom are 50+. Open Sans is simple and comfortable for reading longer text on screens. Both fonts look warm and friendly, matching your group's caring and personal approach.

Imagery & Aesthetic Direction
Imagery Style

Use bright, heartwarming photos of Shelties outdoors in Virginia landscapes, with happy families or volunteers. Focus on natural moments—dogs relaxing, playing, or enjoying life. Images should be clear, not cluttered, with dogs' faces and eyes easy to see to build an emotional connection.

Overall Aesthetic

Warm, welcoming, and genuine. Prioritize simplicity so visitors can find what they need easily. Create a feeling of hope and trust, so people know you're caring and approachable.

Theme Style
Modern but homey. Clean lines and plenty of white space keep things simple and peaceful. Blocks and tiles help divide information, with cheerful touches from golden and navy details.

Sophisticated and professional aesthetic

Layout Approach
Start with one large photo at the top. Below, use simple tiled sections: Available Dogs, How to Adopt, and Rehome Your Sheltie. Each tile has a nice photo and a short intro. Keep sections short and easy to scan, with big buttons for contact. Make sure text is large enough for older readers.

Mobile-first, adaptive design

Recommended Elements
Outdoor images that reflect Virginia's scenery (mountains, forests, backyards)
Dogs with families in home settings that could be urban, suburban, or rural
Seasonal photos (autumn leaves, spring grass) for familiarity
Elements to Avoid
Images of desert or southwestern landscapes
Slick, overly corporate or urban city visuals
Cold or dark color schemes
